Cosmetic Breakthrough 1: Stem Cell

It’s time to be a bit controversial and talk about stem cells. Yes, believe it or not, 2010 could well be the year when stem cells are used for cosmetic surgery purposes. No longer will a surgeon be reliant only on their skills to bestow upon you improvements in your appearance, soon, they will have you as material too!
Embryonic stem cell research has caused moral outrage throughout the world. These cells have the ability to cure diseases impossible to treat with modern man-made materials, but their origin is still a thorny issue. While this debate has raged on, researchers have found that stem cells can also be extracted from your own fat tissue. These cells can be extracted from living people, with permission, therefore, they avoid the ethical problems associated with embryonic stem cells.
The American FDA (Food and Drug Administration) have banned stem cells for therapy purposes, but they have not banned the use of your own stem cells for cosmetic purposes, namely, the pursuit of a younger appearance. So, unlike for therapy, patients do not have to travel to the Far East. The reasons why it is allowed are that it is performed at the same time as the removal of fat via liposuction; the stem cells have not been altered to any great degree; and the fat transfer aided by stem cells does not change the original function of the stem cell.
The taking out and re-injecting of fat cells by surgeons is not a new process, it has been performed for over 10 years now. The top surgeons know that a successful fat-grafting procedure is heavily reliant on the techniques used. They also realise that high concentrations of stem cells within the procedure will lead to the best results.
This procedure is performed by using low negative pressure to withdraw the fat through liposuction. The fat is then processed by decanting. Only through proper techniques of fat processing can the procedure be a success.
Your own stem cells can also be used for facial fat injections. The stem cells used could possibly rejuvenate you, giving you a younger, healthier appearance. Instead of breast implants, surgeons could use fat injections to upgrade your chest. Your derriere could also be improved due to stem cell fat transfers, presenting the client with an enviable figure. Even one’s hand skin could benefit. Though still in development stage, this new procedure is poised to revolutionise the field of cosmetic surgery.
