Tired of having under-eye bags that seem large enough to carry your shopping in? They are not always caused by lack of sleep. They can be caused by dehydration, allergies, and it can even be a hereditary thing. As we age, the skin changes, and our under-eye bags, which are composed of fat bulge forward due to the weakening of our eyelids. Age also leads to the thinning of the skin which wrinkles and collects pigment, resulting in those bags you witness in the mirror. It is an inevitability of life, that one day, you will arise and these unsightly bags will have manifested themselves. How noticeable they are, depends entirely upon the individual. Some are fortunate enough to have only a mild case, others look like they have not slept in a fortnight!
Like the bags themselves, it is up to the person to decide how to treat them. Do you ignore them and accept their place in your life? Do you attempt the classic remedies like placing cucumbers or tea bags over your eyes? Or perhaps invest in an eye wrinkle cream, suited to your skin type? The better types of cream build collagen, hydrating and plumping the skin, however, this will only remove eye bags for a short period of time.
If these eye-bags are hereditary, or if they are so large that you cannot possibly hide them, and their existence makes you self-conscious and unhappy, then maybe a cosmetic procedure is in order. Eyelid surgery is becoming an increasingly popular cure for puffy eyes. You can opt for a procedure that involves having an incision made on the bottom eyelid, where excess fat and skin are removed. Alternatively, the incision can be made on the inside of the eyelid, with the fat being taken out. While scarring is possible with both procedures, it is statistically safer when cutting the inside of the eyelid.
A more recent procedure involves the use of an erbium laser to eradicate damaged skin cells. This procedure requires a strong, local anaesthetic and results in a permanent change to your skin.
There are risks regarding scarring with any cosmetic surgery, so you need to evaluate the importance of ridding yourself of the eye-bags. If it is only of trifling consequence, then you are better off just using the creams or old remedies. However, if they are a thorn in your side, and you feel that they are inhibiting your life, then by all means undergo the procedure. After all, cosmetic surgery is there to make you feel better about yourself.
