One of the major things that people look for in fashion, season after season, is not just the style and genre but also color.
Designers and fashionistas are very insistent on which colors are in, and which are out. For years, colors have evolved. Usually, everyone would look for hues and shades that have not been used yet to make a statement. But when it comes to the red carpet, you'd no longer see any garment that is blinding nor anything as flashy as a disco light. It seems like subtle is back –not pastels –but the basic and classy colors from which we all started with:
| JENNIFERs ON THE SPOTLIGHT [March 7, 2010] Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Hudson arrive at the Vanity Fair Dinner and After Party celebrating the 82nd Academy Award | Midnight blue – The royal hue has had a weird but surprisingly glamorous come back. Stars like Kristen Stewart, Tina Fey and Mariah Carey all pulled off fantastic gowns at the 82nd Academy Awards. Jennifer Hudson, Marissa Tomei and the expectant mom, Amy Adams, also wore similar shades to post-Oscar parties. At the 63rd British Academy Awards, the very stunning Joey Richardson made blue ever so royal in a bright off-shoulder gown with embellished straps. Midnight blue gives the young stars a sense of professionalism and maturity, while the older stars, a bit of youthfulness and mystery. | |

Blush – The simplest, softest, and sweetest color of all time was worn by no less than Demi Moore and Anna Kendrick at the Oscars. Blush is a very stunning hue that brings out beauty so well. As long as the gown has a wonderful cut, stars can look absolutely gorgeous without even trying, and even without embellishments.
Silver – Of course, who wouldn’t want to shine on the red carpet? Silver gowns were worn by powerful and award-winning actresses such as Sandra Bullock and the very slimmed down Kate Winslet. Cameron Diaz also wore a silver colored dress and Kate Beckinsale wore a silver frock at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. They all wore silver in the simplest way and yet it got them some of the biggest photographs on magazines.
White – There’s no end to this color (although some artists insist that it’s a shade). Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez, and Amanda Seyfried all wore shades of white to the Oscars. Their gowns were so grand and astonishing that it almost looked like they were all brides to a mass wedding. Kirsten Stewart wore an unforgettable beaded Chanel mini dress that caught everyone’s attention. For most stars probably, if you’re not sure then it’s safest to go with white. With a bit of embellishments here and there, you get the Snow Queen effect.
Red – If you want to vamp things up and be fiery hot, red is the color for that. Stars like Katy Perry and Kate Bosworth were able to prove that at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Carey Mulligan and Christina Hendrick also looked stunning in red at the 16th SAG Awards.
