I found myself staring longingly at the thick brunette’s hair sitting next to me on the bus. I can’t help but compare my own scraggly crown to hers. I rue the day when I inherited my mom’s mousy brown hair instead of a shining head of blonde or even the luscious color of a red head. With all the hair colors available, I know that I can easily achieve those but I want to go the natural route to wonderful and vibrant hair. I wouldn’t mess with all those chemicals --I have thin enough hair as it is. I don’t want them to fall off because of all the gunk I want to put on it.

So, I did some research and lo and behold! I can have really great hair with the stuff I have in my kitchen. I don’t even have to spend so much money. Turns out I don’t need to buy all the artificial stuff in the drugstore because the first thing I have to fix to get the hair I want is my diet. A good prevention for hair loss is a wholesome diet rich in calcium, iron and silica.

Green, leafy vegetables, especially sea vegetables are rich in minerals. Raw oats provide silica, while dried fruits and cherry juice are rich sources of iron.

Another nifty trick I can do is to wash my hair every alternate day. At first I was thinking, huh? But then they went on to explain that washing it every day can really damage it and cause breakage. I don’t want that. I also have to remember to wash my hair with warm water or cold water. I wonder how I’ll do that. I do so love hot showers.

About the kitchen stuff, turns out I can put a beaten egg and yogurt on my tresses and then get really, really soft hair. I call this the kitchen conditioner. I really feel icky about leaving it on my hair for a few hours but if it does the trick, why not?

For problems with those white flakes called dandruff, use extra virgin coconut oil. This deserves a special trip to the grocery store as I don’t usually have these on hand. Tried it out the other night and my split ends were gone. I tell you, it works and it didn’t even take a trip to the salon.

Honey and lemon mixed together and applied to my hair also does wonders for my hair texture not to mention that it smells absolutely heavenly. Now I’m not so jealous of the brunette anymore because after all the things I found in my kitchen, I have even nicer hair than hers.
